Step-by-Step Instructions
- 1.Turn off the water supply valve located behind or below the toilet tank.
- 2.Flush the toilet to drain all remaining water from the tank.
- 3.Remove the tank lid and place it in a safe location.
- 4.Use a sponge and bucket to remove any residual water left at the bottom of the tank.
- 5.Inspect the flapper for signs of wear, warping, or mineral buildup and disconnect the chain from the flush lever.
- 6.Unhook the old flapper from the overflow tube pegs and install the new flapper by attaching it to the same pegs.
- 7.Connect the chain to the flush lever, ensuring there is approximately 1/2 inch of slack when the flapper is seated.
- 8.If the toilet continues to run, adjust the float height on the fill valve so the water level sits about 1 inch below the top of the overflow tube.
- 9.Turn the water supply back on and allow the tank to refill to check for leaks or continuous running.
- 10.Perform a food coloring test by adding a few drops to the tank and checking the bowl after 30 minutes to ensure no dye has leaked through.
