Step-by-Step Instructions
- 1.Consult local building regulations to ensure your planned structure complies with zoning and safety codes.
- 2.Identify and mark the exact location for the pergola using string lines to ensure square alignment.
- 3.Stain or paint all lumber components before assembly to ensure full coverage and protection.
- 4.Dig holes to the required depth for your climate or install metal post bases onto your existing concrete or deck surface.
- 5.Set the vertical posts into the holes or brackets and use a spirit level to ensure they are perfectly plumb.
- 6.Pour fast-setting concrete into the post holes if installing in-ground and allow it to cure for at least 48 hours.
- 7.Cut the main support beams to size and fasten them to the tops of the posts using structural screws.
- 8.Measure and cut the rafters to your desired length and attach them across the top beams at even intervals.
- 9.Trim the ends of the rafters into a decorative pattern using a jigsaw if desired.
- 10.Secure all joints with galvanized screws or nails to ensure the structure is rigid and stable.
