Step-by-Step Instructions
- 1.
Measure and mark your board according to your chosen design, ensuring you have pieces for the front, back, two sides, a floor, and a roof. - 2.
Use a miter saw or circular saw to cut the wooden pieces to size, using C-clamps to hold the wood steady for accurate cuts. - 3.
Drill an entrance hole in the front panel using a hole saw bit, selecting a diameter appropriate for the specific bird species you wish to attract. - 4.
Drill small ventilation holes near the top of the side panels and drainage holes in the floor panel to keep the interior dry. - 5.
Sand all rough edges with a sanding block to prevent splinters. - 6.
Apply a thin bead of wood glue to the edges of the side panels and attach them to the back panel using finish nails or screws. - 7.
Drill pilot holes before driving in nails or screws to prevent the wood from splitting. - 8.
Attach the front panel to the sides, then secure the roof pieces on top, ensuring they overhang the front to protect the entrance from rain. - 9.
Attach the floor panel using screws instead of glue so it can be removed later for seasonal cleaning. - 10.
Paint or stain the exterior of the birdhouse if desired, but leave the interior natural for the safety of the birds.
