Step-by-Step Instructions
1.Locate your gas meter, typically found on an exterior wall or near the point where the gas line enters your home.
2.Identify the dials on the meter; most residential gas meters have four dials arranged in a row.
3.Read the dials from left to right, noting the number each pointer is indicating.
4.If a pointer is between two numbers, record the lower number.
5.If a pointer is directly on a number, check the dial to the immediate right:
6.If the pointer on the right dial has passed zero, record the number the pointer is on.
7.If the pointer on the right dial has not passed zero, record the lower number.
8.For example, if the first dial is between 0 and 1, the second between 3 and 4, the third between 1 and 2, and the fourth between 0 and 1, the reading is 0310.
9.Subtract the previous reading from the current reading to determine your gas usage for the billing period.
