How to read a gas meter

1
Locate your gas meter, typically found on an exterior wall of your home.
2
Identify the dials on the meter; most residential gas meters have four dials.
3
Read the dials from left to right, noting the number each pointer is indicating.
4
If a pointer is between two numbers, record the lower number.
5
If a pointer is directly on a number, look at the dial to the right; if that dial has passed zero, record the number the pointer is on; if not, record the lower number.
6
For example, if the dials read 0, 3, 1, and 0, the reading is 0310.
