How to read a smart meter
Step-by-Step Guide
1
Locate your smart meter, typically found on an exterior wall or inside your home near the main electrical panel.
2
Identify the digital display on the front of the meter.
3
Press the 'display' or 'select' button to cycle through the available screens.
4
Wait for the screen to display your total electricity consumption in kilowatt-hours (kWh). This is often labeled as 'Total kWh' or 'IMP KWH'.
5
Record the numbers displayed, ignoring any decimal points or leading zeros.
6
If your meter displays multiple readings for different rates (e.g., day and night), press the 'display' or 'select' button to switch between them.
7
For meters with multiple registers, note each reading separately to monitor usage during different times of the day.
8
Regularly recording these readings can help you track your energy consumption and manage your electricity usage effectively.
